Along with your brunch at Magnolia House, you get to choose either a mimosa or a Bloody Mary for just $8. There are other interesting-sounding cocktails on the drinks menu (and their cocktails are heavily promoted on the restaurant’s website), but an $8 drink is too good a deal to pass up. I started then, with the mimosa, which had a perfect champagne to o. j. ratio. The drink was a refreshing complement to my meal and lent an air of glamour to it besides; I felt very Real-Housewifey leaning back in the armchair with a flute of mimosa in my hand (I’ve never actually seen an episode of the Real Housewives, but I imagine that’s what rich, indolent housewives do all day—they sit around sipping mimosas). Once the mimosa was gone, I should’ve ordered another of the same, but decided I ought to sample the Bloody Mary as well. That turned out to be a disappointment: It was basically just a glass of diluted tomato juice with ice. No drop of vodka was involved in the making of that Bloody Mary at all.
