Marianne and I have been meeting up for dinners lately as that seems to work for our busy schedules. This time around, we decided to spice things up by going to a brunch. And don’t get me wrong, I love a great, strong cocktail, just not this early… anymore! The last time I day drank, I was on a date and guess what? I never saw him again because I got so sloppy, I scared him away! Till this day, I don’t really know what happened and never will.
Anyway, I had heard about Magnolia House before and it has been on my “gotta check it out” list for drinks but never for food. According to their Yelp images, the place looked super vibey and romantic at night. During the day, it is just your average brunch place on the West side, except it’s actually in Northeast LA. And now we’re here and it’s cute; it looks clean and is conveniently located next to a gas station, if anyone cares.
Because I was late, when I told the hostess that there was someone already in there waiting for me… Marianne’s name was no longer on the list. Maybe the names of the guests get deleted once they check in? IDK, whatever. I ended up finding her. The drink and the food came in quickly, which I loved! Marrianne and I talked about my shows and lessons learned. We talked about botox and the feedback she gave another writer she’s known for years about his work.
I’ve been into “vintage” cameras lately and was hoping to use my Sony Cyber Shot cam on our food, but the thing about old cameras is that they aren’t very reliable. The battery died before I even got there. So for now, my phone will have to do. I wasn’t mad at all as the natural lighting coming in from the windows facing the street was blinding enough to make this whole brunch experience feel dreamlike.
The service was great, although we had, like, three different servers, which made it confusing when it came down to tipping. I don’t know about you, but I love building rapport with the server. And something about not even knowing their names makes it so impersonal for me. Would I go back? Yes, I still need to experience their craft cocktails they seem to rave about. I will definitely keep an eye on their website for the different theme nights they offer.
