And now we come to the main reason I’d totally go back to Manuela: their extensive cocktails list. Y’all should know by now; I do love me a delicious cocktail! Among the 17 cocktails listed (two are apparently served during brunch only), several sounded appealingly creative (and rather subversive—a few listed “illegal” ingredients). After some deliberation, Charlie and I both started with the “Wishful Drinking,” described on the menu as a drink with “green apple and dandelion infused Amass vodka, Italicus bergamot liqueur, and sparkling wine.” The description sounds more impressive than the drink actually tasted; I could’ve used a bit more vodka and a little less whatever it was that tasted like Sprite. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t terrible, just not very memorable. I finished mine quickly so I could move on to another cocktail on the menu. Not that we were consciously trying to synchronize our drinks this evening, but once again, Charlie and I both found ourselves intrigued by the same drink: the “Archie.” This was a “beet rested [whatever that means] illegal [illegal? Does the Alcohol & Tobacco Bureau know about this?] mezcal” mixed with Oro blanco and lemon. “Archie” is almost disturbingly red, but it tastes quite good if you’ve acquired a taste for mezcal, which I think I have…
