As I was taking bites out of my Duck Confit Chilaquiles, as a fellow Mexican I can’t help but to compare them to the ones my mom makes on the weekends. And who am I kidding?! I’m always hungry! So, I will eat it. In fact, I actually gained ten pounds in the last five months, and I’m okay with that. With all the craziness that came with producing the plays I mentioned in my last blog, I neglected exercising but that is a longer story for another day. Back to stuffing my face!

The menu described it as Chilaguiles with mole, avocado, fried egg and the “duck,” which seems to be in the title. The duck made it sound interesting enough to try. Although the restaurant seemed to categorize it as “American cuisine,” it’s definitely not “American,” it’s more like “fusion.” But that’s an even longer story than why I gained an additional ten pounds. What I am trying to say here is that the restaurant should probably mention that in their “about” section.

My dish did have all that was mentioned on the menu as well as other things, like onions, and although I tried, I couldn’t make out what else was in their Chilaquiles. Maybe red peppers? Chopped tomatoes? IDK. The shredded duck was really good and it went along with the green mole. There might’ve been a hint of lemon in there. I wish they had broken it down in the menu.

Maybe it’s a sign of an insecure chef? Ok, that was harsh! Clearly that got me in a mood. But, I just wanna know as much as I can about the food I’m putting in my mouth. As a “food blogger,” I wanna read and taste the mix of flavors. In the end, I did enjoy it. Honestly, the eggs and the mix of mystery ingredients that accompanied the duck were yummy. It tested fresh. Sadly, the portion could easily fit into my palm, leaving me wanting more. I may act like a tiny petite lady, but at the end of the day I’m still a growing man LITERALLY!
